Hell and damnation! The Bruja is missing! When the most powerful witch alive disappears without a trace, Norah, her 17-year-old niece, decides to investigate. But upon entering her aunt's manor, she interrupts a summoning ritual and finds herself face to face with the devil... Or half of him, anyway, as he has been cut in two and is now stuck in a pentagram. Unable to return to Hell without Norah's help, Lucifer agrees to assist her in finding the Bruja—a devilish task when you're the most feared and hated being on the planet!

General Impressions

I requested this book simply because it seemed like a cute story to lighten my mood after finishing a few heavier books and to my surprise I ended up really enjoying every page.

The first thing that held my attention was the art: not only I found the drawings beautiful, but the colour palette was wonderful without sacrificing the dialogues or frames legibility or the story's mood.

This story reminded me of a mix between Mooncakes and Nimona, not only theme and palette wise but in how the artists made sure each character's personality spoke through the character's fashion choices, how beautifully the fabric fell over the different body types and how this book is full of anti-heroes with a sense of humour.

The entire story has a complex world-building that is a wonder to look at and read about, dialogues filled with humour and pop culture references that will amuse children and adults alike and a suspenseful plot. The only problem I had was that I didn't care for the main witch: she left her demons home alone to starve and she hurt them so she can rot under a bridge for all I care. She looks like a boss though.

Conclusions

I picked this book up as a distraction but I seriously love how easily it was to immerse myself in its world.

I need the sequel now!

Thank you to NetGalley and Europe Comics for gifting me this DRC.
