"Rabbits" is a mix of thriller, horror, and psychological mystery, where all the little and big coincidences you come across in your life are not accidents, they are part of the mysterious game "Rabbits".
General Impressions

My first and overall impression of this book was that this was a love letter to gamer and fandom culture, to all the weirdos and nerds that often see themselves at the margins of the stories told about heroes that are never them.
This was an extremely complex world and story and it's very obvious that it has been in the author's mind for a long time and a lot of attention and time was lovingly poured into it.
I loved how much the main characters treasured and immersed themselves in fictional worlds and found loving and supporting communities there. Although the bad sides of those same communities such as the gatekeeping and sexism were not addressed, they were not present either, with plenty of complexes, great female characters who never have their expertise questioned and autist rep in the main character.
Conclusions

The supernatural aspect was a bit weird for me until it became clear it was more of a sci-fi aspect and I liked the mysteries even if towards the end they became more obscure trivia that the characters found the answers at the exact right time.
The led up to the ending was interesting even if the ending itself left me a bit unfulfilled but I loved every character in it and saw my weirdness and obsessiveness mirrored and recognized. The absolute best part of the book for me was definitely the unforgettable protagonist and the way he saw the world and interacted with the reader.
There's a podcast for those that want more. I know I do.
Thank you to Pan Macmillan for sending me this copy.
